The Best of #ThxBirthControl
Wednesday, the pro-choice movement dedicated a day to celebrating birth control on Twitter with the hashtag #ThxBirthControl.
Most of the tweets we saw were the same old rhetoric about how women’s equality is only possible through access to birth control and abortion. However, some went as far as to say that:
#BirthControl lets us take charge of our own destinies.”
(ok….It’s not education or the Force…)
“One-third of the wage gains women have made since the 1960s are the result of access to oral contraceptives.
The pro-choice movement believes this Twitter campaign was a success because a #ThxBirthControl ad was featured on a bus stop and at Times Square. However, not everyone bought into the “birth control equals women’s rights” mantra or that the pill is a magical pill of possibilities.
Here are some of the #ThxBirthControl tweets that caught our eye:
No one told me the pill could give me cancer. #ThxBirthControl

For real, people, it’s another marketing scheme. Do you even listen to yourselves? “Thank you inanimate object.” #ThxBirthControl
